Bulgarian operator Vivacom launched a summer promotion under which both new and existing customers who activate a new satellite TV service in a 'Combine and save (Kombiniraj i spesti)' offer with a two-year contract can get a full HD Philips TV. The offer is valid only in June. Each customer of this offer can add additional TV channels to it without increasing their monthly subscription. Vivacom TV packages are available in three price variations, the latter including 110 TV channels. The Vivacom special summer promotions Vivacom offer customers the opportunity to add an internet pack with Wi-Fi router and antivirus protection included.
Although over 300 Ultra HD channels will be transmitted via satellite by 2020, there is still much to be done to ensure the format is a success.

Speaking in a presentation at Hispasat Innovation Days in London, Jorge Rodriguez, the company’s marketing manager, said that 4k device shipments are currently experiencing significant growth, while TV sets/connected TV streaming boxes dominate Ultra HD consumption.

However, penetration is still low, with North America and Western Europe seeing the highest adoption.

Rodriguez added that for operators and content providers 2017 and 2018 were critical years for both 4k adoption and 4k launches.

Moreover service providers expect extra revenues from Ultra HD services.

Currently, 69% of viewers in the Americas are prepared to pay “a little extra” for such services – defined as 10-30% more – compared to 67% in EMEA and 63% in APAC. These figures fall significantly for those willing to pay much more (over 30%): 10% in the Americas, 16% in EMEA and 13% in APAC, while a sizeable number of viewers (18% in the Americas, 13% in EMEA and 17% in APAC) are unwilling to pay any more for 4k.

Rodriguez also said that live sports continue to drive Ultra HD production and services. They were followed by early release movies and VOD.

He also outlined the main concerns for Ultra HD/HDR rollout for operators and content producers. Perhaps not surprisingly, the top one was availability of 4k/Ultra HD content (29%, 18% respectively). This was followed by supplying SD, HD, 4k and HDR variants of content (25% v 16%).

Rodriguez concluded by saying that the business/technology factors with the highest impact on 4k/Ultra HD success were likely to be headed by device capabilities, followed by available bandwidth and business case to justify investment.
Following the launch of the Eutelsat 172B satellite, Eutelsat Communications has announced a new launch services contract with Arianespace.

The Arianespace order book now includes three future launches for Eutelsat in addition to the 32 Eutelsat satellites already launched by the European launch services provider over more than 30 years for one of the world’s leading satellite operators.

Of the three satellites to be launched, Eutelsat 7C (built by SSL) will be orbited in 2018, followed in 2019 by Eutelsat Quantum built by Airbus and the high throughput satellite built by Thales.

“Following today’s historic Ariane launch of Europe’s first high-power all-electric satellite, we are proud to once again team up with Arianespace, a long-standing partner and a leader in Europe’s vibrant space industry,” commented Rodolphe Belmer, CEO of Eutelsat.

Our hope is that Ariane 6 will subsequently take over so that we can help Eutelsat meet its objectives even more efficiently.”
BT Sport has agreed a new partnership with Snapchat that will bring coverage of the Champions League to the social media site’s 10 million daily users.Earlier, Snapchat produced moments taken from the semi-finals between AS Monaco and Juventus, and Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid using clips provided by BT. M7 Group, the provider of the Czech and Slovak satellite platform Skylink, has enriched its line-up with several TV channels. The children's channel Nick Jr. will be part of the package Smart and dearer ones (Multi, Combi, Multi HD and Complete). Another children's channel, Tuty, for viewers aged 4-17, will show animated movies, series, its own productions, music clips and the best videos from YouTube. The channel is not encrypted and will be available to all customers of Skylink.

The operator is running another promotion for sports fans, too, in the shape of free weekend broadcasting of the channels Nova Sport 1 HD and Nova Sport 2 HD for all customers, starting from 02 June.

In addition, Skylink is changing the content of Skylink Tasting again, a trial service through which the operator airs selected channels for free for a limited time. From 01 June, Skylink Tasting will transmit the film and series channel AMC. By default, the channel is included in the package Multi and in dearer ones (Combi, Multi HD and Complete).
